Adekunle Ajasin University (History Of AAUA)
Adekunle Ajasin University is a Nigerian university that is previously known as the Obafemi Awolowo University. In march 1982, the federal government of the old Ondo state later changed the name from Adekunle Ajasin University to Obafemi Awolowo University.
The university was headed by the late chief Micheal Adekunle Ajasin before he passed away.
At the time of the military system, the military government of Navy Commodore Michael bami dele Otiko later changed the name of the university to what is known as the Ondo State University.
At that time, the university was later transferred to the new Ondo State. As of 1999, the university became imperative due to the creation of a new state from the old Ondo three years earlier which was around 1996.
At the time of the relocation of the university, the then governor in the person of Chief Adebayo Adefarat, signed the law which made it possible around 1999. This action lead to the relocation of crop workers from the old site in Ado-Ekiti to Akungba Akoko on 1 December 1999.
After some years, there was a new suggestion to immortalize the name of the late Governor Ajasin using the university. A new bill was later passed to enable that to happen.
With several motions, the change of name was let signed into law by Governor Adefarati in 2004 following the demise of the former.
With all that said, as of 2007, there was a need for amendment and substitution, this was later signed into law by another governor, in the person of Governor Olusegun Agagu.
In these circumstances, it can rightly be said that while the history of AAUA started in 1982, its relocation on 5 November 1999 marked the beginning of the second phase of its history now in its present location, Akungba Akoko.
